Language Arts-----------------------------------Uranus
Animals,Animals---------------------------------Neptune
Game and Sport----------------------------------Pluto
(C) COLLECTOR CARDS: 36 cards: consisting of 6 cards each of the 6 different planets.
TO START THE GAME
All players help prepare for the start of the game. Sort all question cards into seven piles,
consisting of GENERAL KNOWLEDGE CARDS plus 6 SPECIAL CATEGORY CARDS.
Shuffle the GENERAL KNOWLEDGE CARDS, divide the stack of GENERAL KNOWLEDGE CARDS into two
piles and place them on the gameboard (with the questions and answers face-down,) in the
spaces marked. Leave the middle space empty. That space is where you will place the cards
once they have been used.
Take the SPECIAL CATEGORY CARDS after they have been sorted by the picture of the planet
that they represent, and distribute them by category, so that each player has one stack of
the SPECIAL CATEGORY CARDS that he/she will be in charge of. When less than six players are
playing the game, you will have to distribute more than one set of SPECIAL CATEGORY CARDS
per player.
Keep the SPECIAL CATEGORY CARDS in front of you. Shuffle them well and place them face-down.
Take the COLLECTOR CARDS and sort them into six piles. Place the sorted piles in the plastic
tray. Use a different space in the tray for each different pile of cards. (Note: The COLLECTOR
CARDS are easily identified because they do not have any questions and answers printed on them.)
Select one player to act as the "Customs Officer". The Customs Officer is responsible for
handing out the COLLECTOR CARDS to players who have successfully answered SPECIAL CATEGORY
questions.
Each player chooses a "Spaceship" (playing piece) and places it on "Planet Earth"
Each player is given an "I.Q.2000 PASSPORT".
The following illustration is an example of a "Question and Answer" Card.
We recommend "A+ questions for children age seven to ten years old. We recommend "B" questions for
children ten years old and over. Decide in advance of the game which group of questions each player
will answer: either "A" or "B". When it is your turn to answer a question, remind the person who
will be asking the question which group of questions you have selected; either "A" or "B". You want
the game to be fun, so make sure you don’t select a group of questions which may be too easy or too
hard to answer.
On each card you can see that there are two questions in the "A" group as well as two questions in
the "B" group. If a card has already been used once in the current game, and this same card has now
been drawn for a second time, then the question that has not been asked before is the question that
should now be asked.
You are now ready to begin playing the game. To determine which player will begin the game, each
player rolls the die, The player who rolls the lowest number on the die will go first, Once that
player begins the game, the next player to begin playing will be the person to the left. Once the
second player has moved, the next player to begin playing will be the person to the left of that
player, and so on, until all players have begun moving across the gameboard.
OBJECT OF THE GAME
The first player to reach "Planet Quizaar" wins the game.
In order for a player to reach "Planet Quizaar" they must begin their travels from "Planet
Earth", By answering questions correctly, they travel the universe acquiring COLLECTOR CARDS
from each of the six planets.
Once a player has collected all six COLLECTOR CARDS they have filled their I.Q.2OOO PASSPORT.
Before moving to "Planet Quizaar" the player will have to answer one last GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
question. Upon answering this last question correctly, the player moves to "Planet Quizaar".
That player will have won the game and the game is over.
FIRST TURN
The two most important rules are as follows: When a player is travelling between planets
(therefore landing on the coloured triangles) that player is to answer GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
questions only.
When a player lands on a planet (see the rules for LANDING ON PLANETS) that player is to
answer SPECIAL CATEGORY questions only. The SPECIAL CATEGORY question to be answered is
determined by the planet that the player has landed upon. (Example:If a player lands on the
"Planet Mars" then that player must answer a SPECIAL CATEGORY question from questions dealing
with Storybooks and Fairytales. If a player lands on the "Planet Uranus" then that player
must answer a SPECIAL CATEGORY question from questions dealing with Language Arts.
TO BEGIN
The player who was selected to go first, rolls the die and "takes-off" from the "Planet Earth",
moving the same number of spaces as indicated on the die. This player is now enroute to the
first planet, which is the "Planet Mars". This player will continue to travel the universe
so long as he/she correctly answers questions from the GENERAL KNOWLEDGE CARDS (while in-between
planets) or correctly answers questions from the SPECIAL CATEGORY CARDS (when landing on a
planet).
Whenever a player is to be asked a question (it may be a GENERAL KNOWLEDGE question or a
SPECIAL CATEGORY question) that player must indicate to the person who is going to ask the
question, which group of questions to ask (either "A" or "B"). Remember, before you started
the game, you decided which group of questions each player would answer.
This game was designed so that players of different ages could all play at the same time.
Accordingly, it is quite possible to have younger players answering "A" questions, while
during the same game, you may have older players answering "B" questions.
The person to the right of the player is always the person who asks the questions when the
player is in-between planets. (When a player is in-between planets, that player must answer
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE questions only.)
The person who is asking the GENERAL KNOWLEDGE questions (again, this is the person to the
right of the player) may draw the GENERAL KNOWLEDGE CARD from either of the two piles of
these cards on the gameboard.
Once the question has been asked, and an answer given, and it is determined if the player
has answered the question correctly or incorrectly, the GENERAL KNOWLEDGE CARD is placed
face-down in the centre section reserved for used cards.
If the player answers the question correctly, the player is entitled to continue moving
throughout the universe, until that player reaches the "Planet Quizaar" and wins the game.
If the player does not answer the question correctly, the play moves to the next player on
the left.
LANDING ON A PLANET
How does a player land on a planet? A player can land on a planet in two ways. (1) A player
lands on a planet when he rolls the die and by moving the exact number of spaces, he lands
directly on the planet. (2) A Player lands on a planet when he rolls the die, and the total
number of spaces to be moved would take him beyond the planet. In such a case, the player
moves to the planet and stops there. (Example: The player is two spaces away from landing
on a planet. The player rolls the die and the die shows "five". The player moves the two
spaces, therefore, landing on the planet and stops. The player is now ready to answer a
SPECIAL CATEGORY question.
Since each planet represents a SPECIAL CATEGORY, unique to that planet, the player is now
ready to answer a SPECIAL CATEGORY question from the person who is in charge of the SPECIAL
CATEGORY CARDS, which were handed out at the beginning of the game. (Remember that the
player must remind the person in charge of the SPECIAL CATEGORY CARDS, which group of
questions to ask (either "A" or "B").)
Once the question is asked, it must be determined if the player has answered correctly. The
answers to each question are directly below the questions on the cards.
If the player’s answer is INCORRECT, the player must then move back (toward the "Planet Earth")
seven spaces. This player must then wait until his/her next turn The only exception to this
rule is when a player has reached the "Planet Pluto" and is required to answer one last
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE question. Should the player answer the last GENERAL KNOWLEDGE question
incorrectly, he/she does NOT move back. The player remains on the "Planet Pluto". The play
passes to the player on the left. When the play returns to the player who has landed on
"Planet Pluto", he/she must again attempt to answer a GENERAL KNOWLEDGE question correctly.
If a player answers a SPECIAL CATEGORY question CORRECTLY, that player collects from the
CUSTOMS OFFICER the COLLECTOR CARD of that planet.
The player takes the COLLECTOR CARD and places it in the I.Q.2OOO PASSPORT in the spot
designated for that particular COLLECTOR CARD. The player is entitled to continue playing
until he/she wins the game (by landing on the "Planet Quizaar") or until the player does
not answer a question correctly.
The person asking the SPECIAL CATEGORY questions places the used card on the bottom of the
pile of the SPECIAL CATEGORY cards, once the question has been asked and the player has
answered.
FINISHING THE GAME
All players are travelling throughout the universe, answering GENERAL KNOWLEDGE questions
when in-between planets, and answering SPECIAL CATEGORY questions when visiting planets.
When a player correctly answers GENERAL KNOWLEDGE questions, that player is entitled to
continue travelling to the next planet. When a player lands on a planet, he/she is asked a
question from the SPECIAL CATEGORY CARDS. If the player answers the question correctly, that
player is permitted to continue travelling toward the "Planet Quizaar".
When a player has answered the SPECIAL CATEGORY question of the "Planet Pluto" correctly, that
player must then answer one last GENERAL KNOWLEDGE question. If the player answers the last
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE question correctly, the player proceeds from the "Planet Pluto" to the
"Planet Quizaar" and is declared the winner. If the player does NOT answer the last GENERAL
KNOWLEDGE question correctly, the player remains on the "Planet Pluto' until his next turn
and then tries again.
The game may end at this point, or, if agreed to by all players before the game was started,
the remaining players can continue to play the game until all players have reached the "Planet
Quizaar".
OTHER IDEAS FOR PLAYING THE GAME
TEAMS: If there are more than six players, set up teams and take turns answering questions. Team
members should discuss their answers between themselves and agree upon the answer to be given to
the person asking the question.
TIME ALLOWED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS: Every player should be allowed a reasonable amount of time to
answer a question. Before you begin playing the game, agree with all players how much time will be
allowed to answer a question. Allowing 30 seconds for a player to answer a question should be sufficient.
Think before you answer a question. Always try to answer a question.
Be fair to each other; don’t talk when a player is thinking about his/her answer.
DON’T GET DISCOURAGED: I.Q.2000’ was designed to be fun and educational! You are not expected to
know the answer to every question. Some questions are more difficult than other questions. If you
knew the answers to all the questions then the game would not be as much fun.
Listen and learn. If you do, after a while the game will be even more fun. If you are having trouble
answering the questions, don’t give up. Keep trying. Learning takes time.
FAMILY FUN! You may think that the questions in this game are too easy for mom, dad, big sister or big
brother. Well, you may be wrong. Mom and dad may know many of the GENERAL KNOWLEDGE questions but you
may be surprised to see how many of the SPECIAL CATEGORY questions they don’t know!
Have Fun!
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The I.Q.2000 game was designed as a conceptual but realistic presentation of the solar system.
Since play begins on the "Planet Earth" and is continued to the far reaches of our solar system,
it must be recognized that the players are travelling away from the sun.
The planets of Venus and Mercury are not shown on the gameboard as they are closer to the
sun than the "Planet Earth".
"Planet Quizaar" is a fictitious (not real) planet.
I.Q.2000 PRODUCTS INC. and PLAYTOY INDUSTRIES INC. would like to point out that the planetary
system on the I.Q. 2O0O gameboard shows the planet Neptune as being closer to the sun than
the planet Uranus. In actual fact, Neptune is farther, thus the order should be reversed.
This does not affect the playing of the game in any way whatsoever.
