IQ 2000 Rock Trivia

Playtoy, 1984

OBJECT OF THE GAME:

IQ 2000 Rock Trivia has been designed to provide a quick and challenging test of knowledge in the area of "rock": All players must travel through the 33 RPM record-album gameboard from beginning to end, answering questions as they travel. The first player to reach the centre of the "record" wins the game.

PLAYING COMPONENTS:

1 - Game Board
  1 - Storage Tray
  1 - die
8 - sets of category question cards (100 cards per category)
  6 - playing pieces (stackable)

TO BEGIN THE GAME:

A minimum of two players (or teams) are required to play IQ 2000 Rock Trivia. Up to six players (or teams) can play.

Players begin by placing the storage tray in an area accessible to everyone. The tray is designed so that the cards can be easily taken from the top of the pile and easily placed on the bottom after being used.

Each player selects a playing piece and places it on "Start" The colour of the playing piece does not relate to the colours on the board or the colours of the category cards.

Each player rolls the die to determine who goes first. The highest roll begins and play continues in a clockwise direction.

PLAYING THE GAME:

The "player" rolls the die and moves his playing piece the corresponding number of spaces. The "player" must now be asked a question. The person to the right selects the top card from the pile that corresponds to the colour of the space the "player" has landed on.

There are five questions on every card. The "player" announces which numbered question he/she would like to be asked (1 to 5). The person who has selected the question card then asks that question. If the player answers correctly, he/she rolls again and proceeds until a question is answered incorrectly. When a player answers a question incorrectly, play moves to the next player.

WHITE SPACES:

If a player lands on a white space, he/she has landed on a "wild card" space, and can select the category as well as the number. If the question is answered correctly, then the player proceeds as normal. If the question is answered incorrectly while on a "wild card" space, then the player must move back 7 spaces. Play then proceeds to the next player.

ENDING THE GAME:

When a player reaches the end of the board (the centre dot), the other players agree on which category the question is to be chosen from. If the answer given is incorrect the player must move back 7 spaces. The first player giving the correct answer, while on the centre dot, wins the game.

SPEEDING UP THE GAME:

The game can be speeded up by doing the following:
  •     (1) doubling the roll of the die;
  • (    2) eliminating the "back 7 spaces" penalty.

    SPECIAL NOTE:

The player being asked the question always selects the number of the question he/she wishes to be asked.
