Honor System

Hitchiker

OBJECT OF THE GAME

THERE ARE TWO WAYS YOU CAN WIN:
• The first player to save $250,000 in your Bank Pouch; or
• Be the first to accumulate $50,000,000 in travelling cash

CHOOSE A BANKER & GET SET UP

Designate a player to be the BANKER. This player will manage the cash and Hometown cards. Each player receives the following:
• A blue vinyl “Bank Pouch” (explained below)

• $25,000 STARTING MONEY (mixed denominations)

OKAY... NOW HOW DO WE BEGIN?

Each player rolls both dice, highest number goes first.

FIRST PLAYER DOES THE FOLLOWING:
• Pick any colour of game pawn (playing piece)
• Place your pawn on any city that is marked HOMETOWN
• Receive your Hometown Ownership Card from the banker

The next player to the left repeats the above steps... and so on, until everyone has picked their Hometown.

ALL SET & READY TO MOVE...

There are 42 fictional cities on the board. You are going to travel around looking to land on an opportunity to make money while avoiding disaster.

FIRST PLAYER now must:
• Roll both dice
• Count each city as one space & move your pawn clockwise

Once you have arrived at your destination simply do whatever the space allows for. (eg. if it’s a “Bad Ride” pick up a Bad Ride Card)

SAVINGS OR TRAVELLING CASH?

You may ONLY put money in your Bank Pouch under the following conditions:
• When you PASS THROUGH any Hometown you own you may deposit up to $20,000 in your BANK
• When you LAND RIGHT ON any Hometown you own you may deposit up to $50,000 in your BANK

SO, THIS MEANS THAT:

The money you have in your Bank Pouch is your "SAVINGS” (accumulate $250,000 in your Bank and you win)

All money you have that IS NOT in you Bank Pouch is your “TRAVELLING CASH” ($50 million - you win)

TRAVELLING CASH is the pocket money that you will be using to wheel & deal with.

You MAY NOT take money out of your bank for any reason other than as directed by a Bad Ride Card, Customs or Death.

ALL ABOUT HOMETOWNS

Every time you pass any Hometown that you own you scoop a Welfare cheque. You COLLECT $10,000 from the bank. You must remember to ask for this money before the next player rolls.

If you land on a Hometown that is owned by another player you must roll both dice and pay the owner times (x) $1,000 the number rolled.

As you will notice there are extra Hometowns on the board. If you land on an unowned Hometown you may purchase it from the bank. if you have more than one Hometown you get the advantage of “Multi Branch Banking”.

With extra Hometowns you can deposit money into your Bank Pouch at each one. (ie. pass through one and land on one you can deposit up to $20,000 + $50,000 = $70,000)

You also collect $10,000 from the Welfare office in each of your extra Hometowns as well.

HOW TO BUY EXTRA HOMETOWNS

To purchase you must first land on an unowned Hometown. You are under no obligation to buy it but may speculate to see if it is a good deal at this time. The Base Price is $5,000 - now do the following:
• roll one die
Multiply the roll by $5,000 to determine the Purchase Price (ie. roll a 5 x $5,000 and the sale price is $25,000)

If you have enough money, and wish to purchase it at this price, simply pay the bank and receive the corresponding Hometown Ownership Card.

Once you have purchased a Hometown you CAN DEPOSIT up to $50,000 IMMEDIATELY. You DO NOT collect$10,000 at this time.

ORDER OF OCCURENCE

When you take your turn, you must do everything in the order that it occurs. ie. If you pass two Hometowns that you own and land on a “Bad Ride” you must:
• Collect $10,000 from the bank for each Hometown
• Deposit up to $20,000 for each Hometown ($40,000 total)
• Now take your Bad Ride and do whatever it instructs

MISCELLANEOUS CITIES

SMASH VILLE - Sing a couple of lines from any Elvis or country song you know & you collect $50,000 from the bank.

SMELL GASO - You smuggle illegal aliens over the border. Roll both dice and multiply by $5,000. Collect from the bank.

SAYSNO - You find someone’s AMIX credit card. Roll both dice and multiply by $5,000. Collect from the bank.

CORPUS RISKY- Roll both dlce: If you roll 7 or 11 you die in a shark attack. (see death)

BAGSTUFF - You run into a crooked sheriff. Pay $25,000 to the player on your right to avoid being locked up on bogus charges. REMINDYA - You land in a Big Pot Hole. You must roll any odd number to escape. Move the odd number you have rolled.

STOCK WOOD - Someone lost their contraband at the festival and you found it. Collect 1 unit times the roll of both dice.

DEATH REALLY STINKS!

When you die you lose everything

When you die the player with the least amount of travelling cash inherits the following:
• All of your travelling cash
• All of your savings from your Bank Pouch
• All of your Contraband

NOTE: All of your Hometowns are turned back to the banker when you die.

Exception:If another player is responsible for your death (ie. they rolled a 7 while you were buying contraband) then that player inherits your estate.

ARE YOU OUT OF THE GAME?

NO ... Hitchikers are subject to reincarnation. When you die you simply start over. Pick a Hometown, start with $25,000 from the bank and try again.

THEREFORE Anyone can join the game at any time and still have a good chance to win. You can go from rags to riches or lose it all in the blink of an eye. Because of this... you can quickly move right back into contention.

BLACK MARKET CITIES

When you land on a Black Market city you have the opportunity to purchase "Units" of Contraband. (ie. Contraband could be untaxed liquor, tobacco, coffee or whatever you can imagine). You will try to buy at a low price so you can sell it for an incredible profit when you land on a Sell city.

HOW TO BUY CONTRABAND
• Land on a city that indicates it is the BLACK MARKET
• Announce that you would like to make a deal
• Place the amount of travelling cash you wish to risk on the board

HOW TO MAKE YOUR DEAL
• The first player on your left rolls both dice for you
• Look up the roll on the Black Market Deal Chart on the board
If this appears to be a good deal simply write the number of units on a CONTRABAND SCORE SHEET and hang on Wit.

ARE YOU STUCK WITH THIS FIRST DEAL? ... NO!

If it is not a good deal (ie. roll a 7 and Die in a Police Shootout) YOU CAN TRY AGAIN. The next player to the left will roll for you.

You may do this up to 3 times. If you decline the first 2 rolls you must take the 3rd one regardless. You cannot go back to a previously declined roll

WHEN YOU MAKE A DEAL & TAKE THE ROLL... that indicates a purchase price and you must buy as much as you can with the money you risked. (ie. risk $50,000 and roll a 3 which is $1000/Unit = you get 50 units)

FREE UNITS - Keep your money and collect your Contraband.

RIPPED OFF Lose the money you risked to the player who rolled it.

KILLED IN A POLICE SH000TOUT - see DEATH. (player who rolled the dice inherits your estate)

SELL CITIES (Selling Contraband)

Once you have Units of Contraband just land on a Sell city & multiply your units times the selling price in that city. (ie. if you have 20 Unite and land on Lost Bananas - Sell x $50,000 it is 20 x $50,000 = $1,000,000 from the banker.

Contraband may only be sold in a Sell city. It cannot be traded or sold to another player. You do not have to sell but it is safer to take the cash & run!

CUSTOMS - ZERO TOLERANCE

If you land on a Customs city & are in possession of Contraband ... You are definitely caught & busted!
• Lose all of your contraband to the banker.
• Lose all of your Travelling Cash + 1/2 of your Savings from your Bank Pouch ...to the player with the least amount of Travelling Cash!

CASINO CITIES - PLAY BLACKJACK

When you land on a CASINO city, you become the dealer for 2 ROUNDS of "Casino Style" blackjack. Everyone plays who has money to wager.

HOW TO DEAL - Shuffle the deck of playing cards and take the top card, regardless of value, and place it upside down on the bottom of the deck.

Deal each player one card FACE UP. (beginning to your left) Now give yourself 2 cards face up beside each other. Finally deal the house one card face up and identify it as the house card. As you can see ALL CARDS ARE DEALT FACE UP.

As dealer you can play 2 hands. Everyone including the dealer is playing against the eventual House Hand ... not each other.

THE OBJECT OF BLACKJACK - is to get a higher total than the House. You want your hand to total as close to 21 as possible without going over. Anytime a hand exceeds 21 it "busts" and loses immediately.

TO COUNT YOUR CARDS - all cards are counted at face value. Jacks, Queens & Kings count as 10 points Aces may be counted as 1 or 11

TO PLACE YOUR BET after you see your first card it is time to place your bet. Each player beginning to the dealer’s left must place a wager beside their card. There is no limit on the amount ... the more you bet ... the more you may win.

AFTER THE BETS ARE DOWN - including the dealer’s 2 bets (one on each hand) the dealer now gives each player a second card face up on all the hands: DO NOT GIVE THE HOUSE ANOTHER CARD UNTIL ALL PLAYERS HAVE FINISHED.

NOW, ALL THE HANDS HAVE 2 CARDS it is time to complete the hands. Each player may take as many more cards as they wish to make their total with. If you choose to take another card for your hand, you tell the dealer to “hit". Once you are finished taking cards, you tell the dealer you "stick". Once all players including the dealer have finished it is time to complete...

THE HOUSE HAND - "must" make a hand that totals at least 17. House must draw another card if the count is 16. If the total reaches 17 - 21 the house must stick. If the house goes over 21, all players who are still in the game win. When the house makes a hand (17-21) each player must have their total beat the house in order to win. If your hand ties the house, your bet "pushes", you do not win but do not lose either ... just keep your wager.

BLACKJACK PAYOFFS & WAGERING

WIN - if you beat the house you win 2 times your bet from the banker. (ie. bet $1,000- keep your bet and collect $2,000)

BLACKJACK - when your hand totals 21 with the first two cards (Ace + 10 points) you have a Blackjack. You WIN 5 times your bet immediately. (ie. bet $1,000 - keep your bet and collect $5,000)

SPECIAL WAGERING - SPLITTING: If your first two cards are of equal value you may split them up and play them out as two separate hands. On your turn you must match your original bet, receive a second card on each hand and play them out as usual from here.

DOUBLE DOWN: If, after seeing your first two cards, you feel you would like only one more card, you may double your initial wager. Now you are dealt only one more card and are stuck with it, regardless of your total.

GOING BROKE

If you do not have enough money to pay an obligation - simply pay what you have & that is all they (another player) or the bank get. The local welfare office pays for your bus ticket and you get to go to any hometown that you own and collect your $10,000. You cannot deposit the $10,000 in your bank at this time.

Just being broke does not qualify you to go home ... you must have an obligation that cannot be met. At times you may be wandering aimlessly for a while. NOTE: There is no credit of any kind extended to Hitchikers.

BAD RIDE CARDS

When you land on a BAD RIDE City prepare for the worst. Pick the top card from the pile and read it aloud. Do what ever is required and remember common sense must prevaiL
